Honeymoon Adventure
*******
Allan and Lynn had quite an unexpected adventure climbing Mount Washington during their honeymoon.
Due to a landslide on the Tuckerman Ravine trail, the usual way up Mount Washington, it was necessary to climb up the Lion’s Head trail. To say this was quite demanding is an understatement. They climbed over large boulders all day until they finally reached the summit at 3:00 pm when they’d have reached the summit by noon by the other trail. They had begun this honeymoon adventure at 8:00 am but didn’t return to camp until 9:00 pm.

Honeymoon on Mt. Washington Honeymoon on Mt. Washington
(a true story)
Mt. Washington’s ravine had rocks that slids
The night before from rain—“No Trail,” sign read.
We climbed into the sky without a lid,
Pulling ourselves straight up the Lion’s Head.
.
The summit bared the sky for eighty miles.
We gazed upon the world’s beautiful soul.
Atlantic isles dotted Spirit’s smiles,
And pipers played to winds’ unrolling scroll.
.
To avoid the Lion, we took a longer trail
That put us in the trees on flooded ledge
In darkest night, snailing to skiing’s vale.
A posted sign: “Look Out”—the ledge’s edge.
.
She sung thus: “Shepherd, show me how to go”—
Clutching my shirt till moonbeams chased our foe.
