When it comes to reading about women in the New Testament, one cannot always take as gospel the words on the printed page because they may be forgeries or may be tainted unconsciously by the Aristotelian mind-set of the translators. This mind-set has often automatically been reproduced in newer translations without closer examination. What we thought was the sacred word about women can be the opposite of what really is sacred. The word of Aristotle is often translated as the word of God. Then men become deceived and women subjugated in a patriarchic church. The so-called word of God concerning women then permeates Western culture.
The lies of Shakespeare’s Iago once deceived and irrationally moved Othello on the world’s stage into smothering the innocent life of Desdemona. The lies of Aristotle’s patriarchy have deceived the church and much of the world’s culture into still smothering the feminine half of humanity. Only the Truth can resurrect the bride.
