Women’s Equality: 19

GOD is MIND, Part 2

******* We continue with how this understanding of God as Mind affects our view of women:

So if God is divine Mind, is Deity masculine, feminine, or both?  Today, those in the West who need not subjugate women to psychologically justify their own self-worth recognize that women can think as well as men and sometimes better.  But when the inaccurate and false syllogisms were being formulated about women’s thinking ability, the views were quite different.  Men were logical beings, and women, only emotional ones.  Thus for the most part men with means were educated while women were steered toward a domestic life with a focus on the duties of a wife and mother.  Not being educated, women were held ignorant in the academic spheres.  But ignorance means lack of knowledge while lack of intelligence means lack in the ability to think.

Allan G. Johnson contends that many of the great qualities of humanity should not be relegated to manhood but to adulthood.  He points out that these qualities are ever much as feminine as they are masculine, that the two sexually oriented genders are much more similar by nature than different.
