Bible Prophecies: 48

Influence of Daniel on Revelation, Part III

*******

One Like the Son of Man

*******

So, John apparently saw Daniel’s “one like the Son of man” as two beings as he did with Moses’ “a Prophet” as two prophets. Certainly, Jesus referred to himself as the son of man (Matthew 9:6), and John called him the faithful witness (Revelation 1:5) of the First Advent. But the passage in Daniel 7:13 is referring to the Second Advent. Thus, who ascends into a cloud in Daniel 7:13, the Son of man or one like the Son of man? This “one like” appears to be the other witness. Surely, the two witnesses must have had similar characteristics.

In Revelation 11, John associated Daniel’s two witnesses with Zechariah’s two olive trees. The two prophets (verse 10) might be the result of John’s understanding in Daniel 7:13 that the reader needs to part “one like the Son of man” into “one like” and “the Son of man.” This recognition of two witnesses might be the result of the Second witness’ unveiling Daniel’s Messiah the Prince, lifting off him in Micah 5:2-4 the cloak of centuries of human hypotheses and scholastic theologies tainted by pagan philosophies, such as those of Aristotle.
