Beyond the Dam, Sonnets and Poems
Allan’s book of Sonnets and Poems, Beyond the Dam, is now available on the websites of Balboa Press, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon. (A note about the Kindle version: the format changes depending on how you set it and the best is to change to “view full screen” (the four arrows at the top) and then each sonnet and poem is more as they are meant to be read and not split into two pages.)
Since this book is filled with Allan’s brother Leonard’s paintings and family photos it needed to be in color and therefore is 8½ X 8½ instead of the usual book size of 9X6.
To introduce this book we should begin by looking at the title for a moment, Beyond … the … Dam. This may seem a little out of the ordinary as it is based on only one sonnet, but this title does have a higher meaning as it focuses on raising thought beyond any limits as do many of these sonnets and poems. There are also ones with literary or historical references, and a few on the humorous side. There are many taken from his own personal experiences through the years. Included are sections on:
