Ages ago women were honored as the source of life. But with the coming of patriarchy, men were thought to be the only contributors to the fetus’ life and thus Life itself must also be only masculine. And the image and likeness of this male Life must be men only, not women. There’s that pathetic, cyclic reasoning again!
Since the formation of human life is dependent upon contributions from women as well as men, is it conceivable that God, infinite Life, is feminine as well as masculine? If so, is not God Mother as well as Father? Not just Father, as our patriarchic culture has insisted on, nor just Mother, as some twentieth-century feminist writers have asserted, but both, both Father-Mother, one God with an image and likeness that includes both males and females?
